Sussex Tech students donate $2,100 to Shepherd’s Office
Using generously donated red cedar wood, the Sussex Tech High School carpentry and construction students made charcuterie boards and sold them to the school’s faculty and staff.
When they discussed what to do with the profits, sophomore Camryn Conley-Daudt suggested making a donation to help those in need. Her idea came from her grandfather’s story about a young family who moved in next door to him many years ago. It was their first home, and they did not have extra funds to celebrate Christmas. Conley-Daudt’s grandfather gave his Christmas funds to the family, and they were able to celebrate the holiday in their new home.
Her classmates appreciated the story and agreed to donate the profits to the Shepherd’s House in Georgetown. Selling over 100 handmade charcuterie boards, the class raised $2,165 and presented the donation Dec. 23. Led by Director Jim Martin, the Shepherd’s Office provides meals each day for people in local areas who are homeless, hungry and lonely. Supplies such as sleeping bags, tents and winter clothing are made available to those in need as well.
Sussex Tech is a public high school that prepares Sussex County students in grades 9-12 for their future success in workforce environments, higher education and the military.
