Robert Anthony Salvatore Sr., Wawa employee
Robert "Bobby” Anthony Salvatore Sr., 65, of Lewes, passed away at home surrounded by family Friday, Feb. 2, 2024. He was born July 26, 1958, in Wilmington, son of the late Louis and Nora Beatrice (Clifton) Salvatore.
Bobby was a graduate of Thomas McKean High School Class of 1977. He married the love of his life, Darlene Salvatore, the following year in Hockessin, and the two would spend the next 45 years creating countless memories and raising their family.
Bobby started his career as a sprinkler fitter for Sprinkler Fitters Local 669. His most recent role and his true calling was public service, and he worked as a cashier at the Lewes Wawa for many years; he was extremely liked and known by all locals. His previous job and his favorite included being the owner of A&R Bait and Tackle shop, where his entrepreneurial skills were evident in developing the business. Beyond his professional endeavors, Bobby had a wide range of passions. He was an avid fisherman, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Bobby was an outdoor enthusiast and lover of nature, and he often archery hunted in the nearby area, particularly for white-tailed deer. One of Bobby’s talents and passions was baking for his family, friends, and co-workers. His cheesecake, baklava and white chocolate chip and cranberry macadamia nut cookies were everyone’s favorites. Bobby also enjoyed gardening and playing poker and darts with his buddies. He will most be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bobby always prioritized family time and loved his family members unconditionally. He will be deeply and genuinely missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was predeceased by his brothers, David and Peter; his sister, Kathaleen; and his nephew, Louie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Darlene (Farrelly) Salvatore; his daughter, Adrienne Klase (John) of Harbeson; his best friend and son, Robert Salvatore Jr. of Lewes; his grandchildren, Kyile Clark of Marshall, N.C., Sara Salvatore of Lewes, and Alyssa Klase of Harbeson; his siblings, Victor Salvatore (Sue) of Hockessin, and Kandi Salvatore of Wilmington; along with many nieces and nephews; and his two fur babies that never left his side.
A viewing will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home. Friends and family may call beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow the services at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, 187 Henlopen Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
