Official 302 Day to celebrate First State March 2
In homage to Delaware’s 302 area code, Dogfish Head and 302 Horseshoe Crab are teaming for the third consecutive year to host the Official 302 Day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at the Dogfish Head Milton Tasting Room & Kitchen.
Celebrating the slight but mighty First State, this free-admission event will feature local libations and eats, live music, lawn games, a Delaware spirit costume contest and the return of Delaware-centric beer 302 Lager. For this year's event, 302 Horseshoe Crab will be having its annual sale and launching new co-branded merchandise with Dogfish Head. For the first time at 302 Day, Delaware State Parks will host a live auction, starting at 2 p.m., for a low-digit surf fishing tag, No. 95, which is the year Dogfish Head was founded. Dogfish Head and Delaware State Parks are also teaming to raffle off some great prizes, with proceeds being donated to Friends of Delaware State Parks as part of Dogfish Head’s Beer & Benevolence Program.
“Keith [Mosher] and Karlin [Maull] from 302 Horseshoe Crab have been instrumental in shaping not only our Delaware-centric 302 Lager but also the spirit of the event,” said Sam Caliagione, Dogfish Head founder and brewer. “302 Day signals the start of spring and gets everyone excited for the sunny days ahead. I always look forward to celebrating with the local community that has long supported both of our brands.”
Originally released in 2023 to celebrate 302 Day, 302 Lager (5% ABV) is making a comeback for this year’s festivities. Ideated and crafted in collaboration with the owners of 302 Horseshoe Crab, this crisp American lager is brewed with thoughtfully sourced 2-row barley malt, heirloom variety corn and sauvignon blanc grape must. The label showcases the iconic 302 Horseshoe Crab logo, representing Delaware’s state marine animal.
“The return of the 302 Lager is a big highlight for us,” said Mosher and Maull. “Last year, we helped Dogfish Head’s brewing team can the beer, but this year we had the opportunity to help brew it. Sometimes we forget about all the planning and energy that goes into brewing a beer. After being involved in the full process, we know it will make every sip of this year's beer that much more enjoyable.”
Priced at $15 per 4pk., 302 Lager will be available on draft for on-site consumption, and in 4pk/16oz cans to go at Dogfish Head’s Milton Brewery and at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth, while supplies last.
