Mariner softball defeats Beacon 11-1

May 9, 2024

Mariner used 12 hits to finish its season at 6-5 with a 11-1 victory over district rivals and future teammates Beacon May 8 at Cape.

Jordynn Bowe went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Makaila Sellers went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Mikayla Pollard went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Sara Craig and Natalie Longo each added an RBI.

Sara Craig started in the circle for the Milton squad, going three innings and allowing just one hit. Riley Windish relieved Craig, shutting the door and allowing just one hit. Both pitchers struck out three batters.

“Today’s win had a lot of meaning behind it,” said Mariner coach Carlin Quinn. “We got to celebrate our amazing eighth-graders in their last middle school game. Even though we only had them for one season, we got to watch them grow through their hard work and determination all spring, and as sad as it is to see them go, we cannot wait to see what they do in their very bright futures.”

Beacon’s Lilly Frey and Lyla Hunnsberger had hits for the Lewes Vikings. Frey went the distance in the circle.
