Gold Rush parade celebrates man's best friend

May 18, 2024

Rehoboth Beach was awash in golden fur and wagging tails May 10, as the biannual Gold Rush parade turned the coastal town into a haven for about 270 golden retrievers and their adoring fans. The event was part of Dewey Beach’s annual Golden Jubilee May 10-11.

From puppies to seasoned veterans, golden retrievers of all ages and sizes took center stage, adorned in festive attire and flashing their trademark friendly smiles.

The parade started at Lake Gerar Park, went down North First Street, onto Rehoboth Avenue, looped the Boardwalk and back to Rehoboth Avenue before ending at Salty Paws, where the proud owners could get a frozen treat for their furry companions. It was a celebration of all things golden retriever.

Event organizer Kim Bronakoski said the event was free, but proceeds from the sale of merchandise went to the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.
