This is our third letter on this topic. There is a strictly enforced speed limit sign on the Nassau Bridge. The speed is 45 mph. I am on this bridge five days a week, and every time I am traveling it, I have a driver on my bumper. I do the speed limit. I drive in the slow lane. I follow the law. A lot of the speeding drivers are from out of state. but some are Delaware residents. Why is it so hard to have the state police monitor speed limits either before or after the bridge and issue speeding tickets? The officer's annual salary could be recouped in a month or two. Another option is to have speed cameras installed on this bridge. The camera will need to capture the driver’s license plate and send a speeding ticket by mail. I realize this is a big cost, but the state could recoup the cost of the camera in a year or so. There are a lot of accidents on Route 1, both northbound and southbound. Can we strongly encourage people to slow down? Issuing speeding tickets and fines could help. The life it saves may be your own.
