Gallo Gives Foundation presents community donations
As part of its continual effort to make a difference in the community in which its associates live and serve, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty’s Gallo Gives Foundation made donations to area nonprofits totaling $8,000 during its most recent giving campaign.
Shoes That Fit – Delaware Chapter received $1,000. The mission at Shoes That Fit is to tackle one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by giving children in need new athletic shoes to wear at school with dignity and joy, prepared to learn, play and thrive. A new pair of shoes can be a life-changing event for a child. School attendance, self-esteem and behavior improve. Physical activity increases. Smiles return. For information on this organization, go to shoesthatfit.org.
Clothing Our Kids was awarded $2,000 to help improve the lives of at-risk elementary school children in pre-K through fifth grade by providing them with appropriate school clothing so they can have an equal start in their early education and become successful students. West Side New Beginnings was given $2,000 to support its after-school programs and activities for children in the Rehoboth community. Volunteers offer tutoring and mentoring as well as weekly meals. To volunteer, donate or learn more, contact Brenda Milbourne, 302-362-0353.
Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding received $2,000 toward its mission to offer programming to improve the physical and emotional well-being of children and adults living with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy in a supportive environment for riders and families. For details and to donate, contact Jo Allegro-Smith at 302-644-1920 or go to sdtrhr.com.
The American Heart Association received $1,000 for its Southern Delaware Heart Walk. Participants walk in honor of those who suffer from heart disease and to raise funds for the advancement of research initiatives and community education programs. Heart disease is this nation's No. 1 cause of death, claiming nearly a million American lives each year, more than all forms of cancer combined. This year’s Heart Walk will be Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. For more information, go to heart.org/southerndewalk or call 302-286-5708.
