Vikings Baseball Camp is a hit with attendees

The inaugural Cape Henlopen Vikings Baseball Camp was held July 8-11 at Cape High's Chris Short Field in Lewes.
The camp was directed by two-time state champion head coach Ben Evick (2018, 2022) and his varsity assistant Seth Brosius, college players Owen Daminger and Timmy Hitchcock and Vikings players Jacob Smith and Dom Mangini.
More than 40 players from kindergarten to eighth grade learned everything from fundamentals through advanced skills to make them more proficient players on the diamond.
The K-4 grades were taught from 9 to 11 a.m., while players in grades 4-8 attended from 12 to 4 p.m.
“I had a great time this week," said camper Charlie Imperial. "I learned something new every day from the coaches, and I got to play with different kids. These things have made me a better player.”
The players acquired skills in throwing, batting, pitching, defensive play, base running, rundowns and more.
"The camp was great and the kids have learned a lot," said Evick. "They have worked hard every day. It’s been challenging with the heat, but they have toughed it out and had a blast."
The players were give frequent breaks from the heat in the air-conditioned Cape varsity clubhouse.
The camp will resume Monday, July 15, with players from grades 9-12.
