Goode will show up, speak truth to power

July 19, 2024

Thank you to the Cape Gazette for reporting on the hiring contract for the new city manager of Rehoboth Beach. You revealed to the public information relating to salary, moving allowance and a housing provision. Thank you to the concerned residents of the City of Rehoboth Beach who went to the state attorney general regarding the commissioners' violations of the city charter's specified qualifications for the city manager and the Freedom of Information Act. Thank you to all the concerned residents of the city who attended the special meeting on July 8.

At the meeting, many residents spoke about what had been revealed by the press or by the residents' action with the AG; others spoke to and revealed additional issues. Our former Mayor Sam Cooper made the point that the contract violated another section of the charter; i.e., the grounds for termination in the contract differ from those specified by our charter. Suzanne Goode pointed out another outside-the-norm aspect of the compensation package in the contract; i.e., the mileage reimbursement provision.

Suzanne Goode is a candidate running for commissioner in the upcoming election in the City of Rehoboth Beach. Some of the other candidates for commissioner did not even attend the meeting. It was no surprise to me that Suzanne was present and spoke at the special meeting, as I often see her at the city's monthly workshop meetings and regular meetings. The only time I have ever seen the other candidates at these meetings was June 20, when all candidates were verified as being property owners and eligible to run.

On Aug. 10, I will vote for Suzanne Goode for commissioner. She will show up. She will speak truth to power. Most of all, she will make wise decisions that will be in the interest of the common good.
