Youth fishing tournament is a great event

September 13, 2024

The nonprofit organization Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park just held its youth fishing tournament Sept. 7 at the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier. It always a blast to take my kids fishing, and no matter what, they always have an epic time. I just want to say thanks to the tournament director who organizes the event every year because he spends a lot of his own money to make sure the event runs smoothly. There are also a lot of volunteers who help, and prizes donated by local fishing shops.

When I was young, the pier was much bigger and the bait shop was run by Hoss who used to like to chain smoke cigarettes. My kids are already looking forward to next year.

I plan on donating some new rods and tackle to the event next year, and I’m sure if anybody else would like to donate fishing items, the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park would be very thankful. They have a website and their contact information is fochsp@gmail.com or 302-858-6127.
