DelDOT extremely responsive to request

September 27, 2024

At 4:18 p.m., Sept. 25, I submitted a road condition issue about the school zone signage on Route 24 at Beacon Middle School and Love Creek Elementary School. The sign says something like "School zone 20 mph when children are present." My husband and I have wondered about that sign for years because we never see children present at this location.

I called the state police because we thought there should be flashing lights when drivers need to go 20 mph, and they said it was a DelDOT matter. I called DelDOT, which suggested submitting the issue on the "Report an Issue" page, which I did. At 4:19 p.m., Sept. 25, I got an auto-reply thanking me for reporting the issue.

The next morning at 8:01 a.m., I got an email reply from DelDOT saying it had received similar concerns and was working on it, and due to construction, it has been unable to complete the effort. I was overwhelmingly impressed with the speed and sincerity of DelDOT’s reaction to my inquiry. Thanks, DelDOT, for restoring my faith in our government! Also, thanks to the state police officer who was extremely thoughtful, forthright and helpful!
