Last week, I was in Rehoboth Beach and decided on a coffee. I was the only one in line at this boutique shop. Two young men, late 20s working behind the counter. One walked over to, I thought, ask for my order. He received a text as he stood in front of me before saying a word to greet me or ask for my order. He looked at his phone and proclaimed, I have to answer this text. Walked away to the back room. Huh? The co-worker witnessed this. After my suggesting to the second man that his partner was wrong, he agreed and efficiently carried out my order. He then again apologized for his co-worker’s actions.
On Saturday, I visited a consignment shop in Midway. A man in his late 20s was putting out goods for sale. He was loudly proclaiming to a co-worker that the items were ugly and awful, getting full agreement from the second worker. A few customers like myself were in the store. I approached the young man and quietly suggested that he not malign the products when customers were in the store. He shouted that he was entitled to his opinion and so was I. Then he proclaimed in a louder voice to his co-worker about the lack of quality goods available in the shop. His rage was remarkable.
Is it me? What is with these young men? One out of four is not a good quality index. Glad they don’t work for my small business.
