The City of Rehoboth Beach will keep the Independence Day party going with a fireworks display launching at about 9:30 p.m., Saturday, July 5, weather permitting, from the beach near Brooklyn Avenue. The display will be visible from along the beach and Boardwalk.
Several road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented July 5 to facilitate access and safety.
The bandstand area will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 p.m. to midnight. Festivities will begin at 8 p.m. with a free concert by the Funsters at the bandstand, and they will continue performing after the fireworks.
Beginning at 7 p.m., only bus traffic and residents will be permitted on Henlopen and Surf avenues. After that time, Henlopen Avenue residents, and those in Henlopen Acres and North Shores must access their residences via Second Street. Vehicles will not be able to cross Rehoboth Avenue at the traffic circle starting at 7:30 p.m.
Rehoboth Avenue eastbound and Church Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Route 1 beginning at 8 p.m. At that point, all vehicles entering Rehoboth Beach will have to take State Road to Bayard Avenue.
To leave Rehoboth after the fireworks, vehicles north of Rehoboth Avenue will be directed to exit via Rehoboth and Columbia avenues. Vehicles on the south side of Rehoboth Avenue will use Bayard Avenue to Route 1 southbound only, or take Hickman or Munson streets to State Road to access Route 1 north- and southbound.
No parking will be allowed in the following locations: Surf Avenue, convention center parking lot, around the Bandstand, Grenoble Place and Surfside Place, and marked spots in part of the ocean block of Laurel Street.
Following the fireworks, the pickup location for those using the DART Park & Ride Service will be at the Henlopen Hotel.
