Athletes of the Week June 27

June 27, 2025
Jordynn Bowe

Jordynn was one of four freshmen on a Cape softball team that finished the regular season undefeated, but she was the only Viking on a Delaware South softball team that finished second in the 2025 Softball Carpenter Cup in Philadelphia. As a Phillies fan, she said it was surreal playing in the shadow of Citizens Bank Park against some of the region's best high school softball players. She also managed to catch a Phils game while she was up there. Softball was Jordynn’s first and her favorite sport because she believes there are a lot of lessons the game can teach someone. The rising sophomore wrapped up her freshman year with a .774 OPS, while commanding the hot corner. Outside the high school team, Jordynn competes for East Coast X-Plosion Lutz 16U in the travel ball circuit.

Abi Crouch

A recent Cape graduate, Abi received the softball team's Unsung Hero Award at the end-of-season banquet. After missing all of 2024 with an ACL injury, she came back with a strong performance. She came through when her team needed her. In her last eight games, seven of which were against playoff teams, she hit .526 with three doubles, a homer and seven RBIs. "I am so proud of and happy for this young lady," said coach Mike Tkach. "Not only did she come back from a torn ACL that took away her junior season, but we also moved her from right field to the designated player position. We needed her in the batting order, and she was determined to contribute to the betterment of the team with singles, extra base hits, RBIs and even a memorable first home run against IR in the playoffs." She will be attending the University of South Carolina to study exercise science and physical therapy. In her spare time, she likes to workout, go to the beach and hang out with her friends.

Abby Marsh

This Cape grad recently received the softball team’s MVP Award at the end-of-season banquet. She had 420 strikeouts in 405 innings pitched, garnering 50 wins in her career for the Vikings. This year, she collected 17 wins during an undefeated regular season, posting a 1.37 ERA. She received first-team all-state honors. "Abby accepted the pitching responsibility four years ago and has performed at a high level," said Cape coach Mike Tkach. "She made our team go, and that’s one reason she was chosen as a captain. Girls would battle for her, and she always gave her best for us." Abby's future plans are to play shortstop for Delaware Tech, where she will study business marketing, then transfer to Salisbury University. In her spare time, she loves going to the beach, boating, and spending time with her dog and cat while listening to good country music.

Abbey Schaeffer

As a first-year senior starter in goal for the Cape state championship girls’ lacrosse team, Abbey may have been a question mark to some, but not to goalie coach Bruce Leibu. “Abbey is the type of goalie that when she gains experience and confidence, she's going to be really good,” Leibu said before the first game. Coach Lindsey Underwood said of Abbey, “She really stepped up big time the second half of the season. Love her as a choice for Athlete of the Week." Abbey was first-team all-conference and first-team all-state after stopping 46% of the shots on goal and allowing 5.61 goals per game. She recorded her 100th career save in the state championship win over Tower Hill. Abbey can stop the ball and she can clear it. Abbey will be attending Stockton University, a Division III school competing in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Ospreys lacrosse team was 11-6 last season.
