Bayhealth and Biggs Museum team for art and well-being initiative

July 19, 2025

The Bayhealth Foundation and the Biggs Museum of American Art hosted a joint reception June 11, bringing together donors and supporters to learn about a new art and well-being collaboration between the two organizations.

Guests were invited to explore art exhibits at the museum in Dover and to learn about the role art can play in helping clinicians and caregivers who are facing burnout and emotional fatigue.

The speaker, Bayhealth Chief Wellness Officer Thomas Vaughan, MD, discussed the benefits of art therapy in healthcare environments. He emphasized how creative expression is being used to support clinicians, nurses and team members navigating the emotional demands of their work.

“Clinicians and caregivers give so much of themselves every day. Art offers a powerful outlet, helping to reduce stress, restore energy and prevent burnout,” said Vaughan. “This partnership between Bayhealth and the Biggs Museum is a testament to the power of community and creativity coming together to heal.”

The collaboration will also include the installation of interactive displays and creative corners to enhance creativity and innovation for museum attendees. Plans are underway to create rotating art galleries that will highlight creative projects by Bayhealth team members as well as local students.

“This collaboration is more than a one-time event,” said Lindsay Rhodenbaugh, DMin, Bayhealth Foundation president. “It represents an ongoing commitment to care for our community through innovative, evidence-based approaches like art therapy.”

“Bayhealth shares our conviction that creativity and well-being go hand in hand,” said Hassan Najjar, Biggs Museum executive director. “Together, we’re opening new doors — bringing art into healing spaces and inviting neighbors into the museum — to nurture healthier, more vibrant lives across central Delaware.”
