Soil health field day set Aug. 20
The Delaware Soil Health Partnership will host an in-person soil health field day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 4722 Stein Highway, Seaford.
The event will feature a lineup of local soil health leaders and practical demonstrations. Chris Brosch, deputy secretary of agriculture, will discuss compost and soil health amendments. Jay Baxter, owner of Baxter Farms Inc. and a National Association of Conservation Districts Soil Health Champion, will share cost-effective ways to get started with soil health farming. Brian Tull of Tull Farms Inc. will speak about the practices and lessons learned from his own soil health journey.
A panel of ag service providers will highlight seeding technology and aerial application tools, including airplanes, drones and air seeders.
Lunch will be provided, and equipment demonstrations will follow the panel discussion. Nutrient management credits and certified crop adviser credits are pending.
“This event brings together experienced producers and service providers who understand the value of building healthy soils,” said Debbie Cahall, director of agricultural programs at Sussex Conservation District. “It’s a great opportunity for others to learn how these practices can improve productivity and sustainability.”
