Delaware Electric Cooperative to hold annual meeting Aug. 12

August 6, 2025

Delaware Electric Cooperative will host its 89th Annual Meeting Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.

DEC members are invited to enjoy a complimentary chicken dinner, learn about DEC programs and services, and connect with local organizations at the community fair. CEO and President Rob Book will update members during the co-op’s business meeting about DEC’s efforts to maintain the lowest electric rates in the state and make annual reliability improvements, and will provide information on how DEC’s service compared to utilities across the nation over the last year.

Thousands of members are expected to attend the meeting of the member-owned co-op. The community fair and dinner will kick off at 3 p.m. in the Memorial Hall (formerly the Centre Ice Rink), followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m. in the Dover Building. New this year, members are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to donate in support of the Food Bank of Delaware, which will have a donation drop-off near the entrance.

“We are excited to welcome our members each year,” said Book. “DEC’s Annual Meeting is a wonderful opportunity for fellowship, to share updates with those we power and to celebrate the cooperative difference.”

Live entertainment will be provided by the Salty Soles Duo and the Jones Boys. Members are encouraged to bring their families to share an evening of food, music and community. Members will also have a chance to win a $50 billing credit at the conclusion of the business meeting.

“It’s an evening dedicated to our membership, and we certainly look forward to seeing everyone there,” said Book.

Delaware Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility powering more than 300,000 customers in Kent and Sussex counties.
