A pedestrian was hit by a car on Old Orchard Road in Lewes Aug. 17. My understanding is no serious injuries occurred.
I am hoping to bring attention to an evolving issue on that road. Construction to widen the road and bring more traffic from Route 1 north to avoid the Five Points conundrum is imminent. The Lewes to Georgetown Trail crosses Old Orchard Road. We hold our breath every time we drive over the path and always watch for bicyclists.
However, bikers often don’t slow down, and drivers who aren’t local don’t know to slow down. A bad accident is waiting to happen. A bicyclist was hit by a car farther west of the path a few weeks ago.
Can DelDOT do more to alleviate this situation right now and for the future? I think so, and I look forward to seeing some remediation.
