Blood Bank issues urgent call for donations thru Sept. 3
With the blood supply remaining at critical levels, the Blood Bank of Delmarva has issued an urgent appeal for donors as Labor Day approaches and residents celebrate the end of summer and prepare for the upcoming school year.
Due to increased trauma cases, the impact on the local blood supply has been severe, and BBD is calling on community members to step up now and ensure blood is available for those who need it.
Individuals who donate through Wednesday, Sept. 3, will be entered into a drawing to win a vacation package for two to a choice of five destinations.
"Labor Day and back-to-school season always bring unique challenges for our blood supply," said Keith Heim, vice president at Blood Bank of Delmarva. "This campaign is our way of turning that around by inviting both first-time and returning blood donors to roll up their sleeves, save lives and have the chance to go on a memorable getaway.”
In light of recent updates to FDA guidance, more people than ever may now be eligible to donate. Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. To view current guidelines or to make an appointment, visit delmarvablood.org or call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
