Edith May Lupton Risher, native of Lewes

Edith May Lupton Risher of Oakland, Calif., died peacefully Friday, Aug. 22, 2025. She was born Sept. 3, 1930, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, daughter of Albert Marsee Lupton and Edith Tunnell Lupton.

Edith graduated from Lewes High School and University of Delaware. She entered the Carmelite Order of the Catholic Church and served for 10 years. Following this, she earned a master’s degree in social work from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Raymond C. Risher. They settled in Oakland, Calif., where Edith worked in the field of social work throughout her career.

She is survived by her two children, Christopher David Risher of San Leandro, Calif., and Amy Therese Troutman of Oakland, Calif.; two grandchildren, Kienan Paul Cruz and Fletcher Vaughn Troutman; nieces, Margaret Ann Lupton, Virginia Lupton Keller Beaverson and Elizabeth Anne Keller Owen; and nephews, William Lupton, John Lupton and Albert H. Keller. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; siblings, Albert M. Lupton, George T. Lupton and Virginia Lupton Keller; and nephews, David Lupton and James W. Keller. 

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
