What a strange opener for the Eagles

September 5, 2025

The Eagles won a close game by the score of 24-20 after an hour-and-a-half lightning delay late in the third quarter. The final score was quite surprising to me considering in the first half both offenses were dominating the defenses and the score was 14-14. The start to this game was bizarre. On the opening kickoff, Eagles player Ben VanSumeran seemed to blow out his knee. Then, during the injury timeout, the Eagles’ best defensive player Jalen Carter was a complete jerk and got thrown out of the game for spitting at the Cowboys quarterback. This definitely is a reason why the defense struggled in the first half.

Thankfully, Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley had very good performances as a whole. Hurts looked great in the first half, not necessarily as a typical quarterback, but instead, scoring the Eagles’ first two touchdowns by running the ball and not passing it.

In order for the Eagles to win in Week 2 at Kansas City against the Chiefs, they’re going to have to clean up a lot of mistakes! The Chiefs are definitely going to want to beat them for a bit of revenge for their Super Bowl loss.

The Phillies are ahead of the Mets by six games in the division right now. Their magic number to clinch a spot in the playoffs is 12 or 13 wins and/or losses combined. We will see if this happens. The biggest worry for the Phillies right now is whether their starting pitchers can step up since Zack Wheeler is out for the season.

The Phillies just completed a series against the Milwaukee Brewers, winning two of the three games against the team that has the best record in all of baseball. That's all good, but they need to be getting more runs and making the wins solid and not cause us to hold our breath up to the last pitch.

The U.S. Open tennis tournament is coming down to the end. I’m very impressed with the fact that Amanda Anisimova has been able to advance to the final after what happened to her at Wimbledon in July. Sadly, she was defeated in the finals there 6-0, 6-0, so this current performance is quite a comeback. She will now come up against Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

On the men’s side, the usual suspects are still in the tournament. It will be the predictable big three. Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. In order for Novak to win his 25th Grand Slam tournament, he’s going to have to beat both Alcaraz and Sinner in the last two matches. This will be a difficult task.
