Irreverent Warriors march through Dewey and Rehoboth

National organization raises awareness on veteran suicide prevention using humor

About 100 people participated in the Irreverent Warriors hike Sept. 20, that took participants through Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach.

Irreverent Warriors is a nationwide organization focused on veteran suicide prevention that hosts hikes all over the country. The organization uses humor to help veterans cope with pain, tragedy and trauma.

A little revelry and volleyball at Northbeach in Dewey Beach makes it a lot easier to be irreverent later on.
It’s not a humorous subject, but participants dress silly to break the ice. Army Specialist Kevin Bart, Army Specialist Andy Demarest and Air Force Staff Sgt. Jamaal Austin are up to the task.
There are Irreverent Warrior walks all over the country. Army Specialist Branden Zeitler is the organizer of the local walk.

With the walk halfway over, the group circles the Bandstand for lunch.
Prior to making their way down the Boardwalk, the Marine Corps participants storm the beach on Queen Street.
It would be hard to miss Marine Corps veteran Jeremy Walters even if he wasn’t dressed in short shorts and holding an American flag.
