New members join young men’s leadership group at Beacon Middle

October 6, 2025

The Beacon Middle School More Life young men’s group has welcomed a new class of members who are eager to carry forward its mission of character, leadership and service.

At the first meeting of the year Sept. 17, members received their Cape-branded ties. They discussed the importance of having good interpersonal communication skills, and learned how to step into a room with both confidence and respect.

More Life started at Beacon Middle School during the 2024-25 school year as a student-led group that provides young men with opportunities to grow as leaders, serve their community, and develop the skills and values needed to succeed in school and beyond. The group emphasizes respect, responsibility and making positive choices, while fostering brotherhood and mentorship among its members.

This year, More Life will expand its programming with new initiatives, service projects and events designed to strengthen the bonds among members and reinforce the organization’s commitment to excellence. Returning members will play a key role in mentoring new students, helping them embrace the organization’s values and traditions.

“We are thrilled to welcome a new group of young men into More Life as we begin our second year,” said Charles Mumford, Beacon teacher and group advisor. “Our students are proving that leadership is about more than titles; it’s about service, integrity and striving to be your best self each day.”

This year, students will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers, participate in team-building activities, and conduct school and community service projects. Families, staff and community members will have chances throughout the year to support the organization’s efforts and celebrate the achievements of its members.

“We’re looking forward to another exciting year with a great group of students who are ready to work hard, learn a lot and have fun doing both,” said Mumford.
