Why doesn’t Cape use scoreboard for JV football?

September 26, 2025

Last week, I found myself attending a Cape Henlopen High School JV football game, which was competitive, impressive and held to a high level of sportsmanship. However, I found myself constantly distracted from the efforts of these young men and coaches by the constant discussions relative to, “What’s the score?” “How much time is left?” “Do you think that was the end of the quarter?” And other such pertinent questions.

I was wondering why the scoreboard isn’t used. If it’s a matter of manpower, I will volunteer to do it. If it’s money, I’ll help raise it. These young men and coaches work very hard to achieve the highest levels of conditioning and competitiveness. The lack of such an important part of the contest diminishes their efforts. Even Little League baseball shows their respect for the kids by using a scoreboard.
