It was no surprise to me to read in the Sept. 23 edition of the Cape Gazette that Beebe Healthcare's Center for Weight Loss Surgery was recognized with a series of quality designations by insurance carriers.
After almost 50 years spent trying to lose weight on my own, I had a gastric sleeve procedure performed in December 2023 by Christopher Manieri, DO. I had met with Dr. Manieri and Kimberly Hiatt, MPH, RD, LDN, CSOWM, multiple times prior to surgery and have had comprehensive following care and support, including monthly in-person support meetings attended by other patients pre- and post-operative. Besides losing more than 100 pounds, and with my primary care physician's blessing, I have stopped taking prescription medication for hypertension and pre-diabetes. This has changed my life for the better in so many ways. It is not the easy way and requires hard work from the patient, but with the genuine care that this practice provides, I know I will continue to be successful on this journey.
This region is truly blessed to have this resource at hand. I encourage anyone whose life and well-being are being negatively impacted by their weight to make an introductory appointment and see what solutions they can offer.
