Atlantic Fields should be on Route 1 north of Five Points
Editor’s note: Overbrook Town Center, proposed with 850,000 square feet of retail space, with six pad sites and more than 5,000 parking spaces, was proposed for a farmland area of Route 1 north of Five Points, but a rezoning request was denied by Sussex County Council in 2016.
It is really too bad that Route 24 may, again, be challenged by overreach of retail/commercial/housing developments.
The ideal location for Atlantic Fields, with all the proposed stores, is just north of Five Points on Route 1.
This location would eliminate the traffic issues and be convenient to residents as well as visitors on their way to the beaches in Delaware and Maryland.
But how can this happen? Maybe we need the Sussex County commissioners to step up their game and proactively seek locations, properties for potential and logical solutions for the need of larger stores, thereby solving the need of both residents and mall developers.
