Cape Henlopen Senior Center members already know how much it has to offer, so nonmembers are invited to see what they are missing out on.
The CHSC quilting group meets from 9 to 11 a.m., Tuesdays, working on new quilts or adding finishing touches to quilt tops. They welcome new additions and are happy to teach quilting skills to anyone interested.
Those who enjoy working with fabric, needles and thread in general may join the sewing group from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays, to share camaraderie while creating projects. Attendees should bring their own supplies and a sewing machine if needed, along with lunch.
The Yarners group meets from 9 to 11 a.m., Wednesdays for those who enjoy knitting, crocheting and exchanging ideas for all kinds of needlecraft projects.
The woodcarving group meets from 8 to 11 a.m., Tuesdays, with each participant working at their own pace on a project of their choosing. The group purpose is to encourage the art of wood carving, so current members offer assistance to newcomers to get them started.
The Arthritis Exercise class takes place from 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesdays, and will teach participants how to reduce pain, keep stabilizing muscles strong, increase their range of motion and mobility, improve joint function, combat fatigue and boost energy.
Yoga meets from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesdays, and this energizing class can help improve attendees’ physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Balance Class with Chris the Trainer takes place from 3:15 to 4 p.m., Tuesdays. Participants will focus on improving their body’s ability to maintain equilibrium in both static and dynamic situations, often through exercises that challenge stability and coordination.
Anyone looking to improve their balance and overall health while engaging in low-impact, full-body movement should put Tai Chi Yang 24 Form on their schedule from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Tuesdays. This form of gentle exercise is a holistic experience that engages the body and mind, leading to improved awareness and balance with ongoing training that can help reduce the risk of falling. Sharon Downs is an instructor with a talent for explaining the movements to help new students easily understand and experienced learners refine their practice. The movements are modified to each participant’s ability, encouraging safety and a positive experience.
In addition to exercise classes, CHSC also offers ballroom dancing, line dancing, sit and get fit exercise, chair yoga, gentle yoga, circuit fitness training and a wonderful fitness room.
There are small fees for all exercise classes; contact Program Director Bernita Hackney for details at 302-227-2055, Ext. 7.
