Sussex Academy middle and high school students participated in the Wings & Wheels Pathways to Aviation trip Oct. 3 at Delaware Coastal Airport.
Students were able to meet with representatives from aviation companies, colleges and the military to discuss various careers.
They also took part in hands-on activities, toured facilities and viewed a variety of aircraft on site, including a piloted drone, said Sussex Academy Middle School Dean Rachael Johnston.
“A huge thank you to the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce for providing students with the opportunity to explore career pathways in aviation by visiting various vendors and organizations such as Aloft Aero Architects, Delaware State Police, Del Tech, Del State, Ocean Aviation, Collins Aerospace, Chorman Spraying, Southwest Airlines, Army and Air Force recruiters, Civil Air Patrol, Experimental Aircraft Association and the 9th Airlift Squadron from Dover Air Force Base,” she said.
Head of School Kyle Bentley said, “We would like to thank Linda Price and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce for creating this opportunity for our students. Our partnership with the chamber and community helps us teach students about career and technical pathways that will prepare them for future success.”
Sussex Academy’s mission is to foster academic achievement and social responsibility in a small-school environment where students participate in a highly accelerated college preparatory program that prepares them for the technological and global mindedness needed for the 21st century, and instills ethical conduct and service to others in their day-to-day lives.
