Georgetown man charged with DUI after crashing into The Circle
A 35-year-old Georgetown man was arrested following a single-vehicle crash Oct. 19, near North Bedford Street and The Circle in Georgetown.
Officers were dispatched to the area about 1:03 a.m. Upon arrival, they observed a male subject fleeing on foot from the vehicle involved in the incident.
After a brief foot pursuit, Santos Niz-Chilel was apprehended and taken into custody.
A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle appeared to be traveling south on North Bedford Street when it continued straight into The Circle, striking a street sign and damaging nearby flower beds. The cost of repairs is still being assessed.
Niz-Chilel was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, failure to provide information and leaving the scene of a crash.
He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, where he is currently being held.
