Jean & Joan golf event raises $39K for Beebe cancer care

November 18, 2025

The Jean & Joan Golf Tournament committee recently presented Beebe Medical Foundation with a donation of $39,479 from the proceeds of the 26th Annual Jean & Joan Tournament held at Kings Creek Country Club near Rehoboth Beach.

Proceeds from the annual tournament are directed to Beebe Medical Foundation and used to offset costs local patients face when undergoing treatment for cancer, from transportation and medications to essential supplies. Funding generated by this special community event also helps Beebe invest in new technologies and programs to optimize the care experience for cancer patients.

Over the years, event proceeds have supported the purchase of multiple patient transport vans, a new diagnostic system, a prosthesis fitting station, 3D mammography equipment and a blanket warmer. These funds have also made it possible for Beebe to expand its reference library and create a wellness education program for cancer patients in recovery and remission.

The Jean & Joan Golf Tournament honors the memory of Jean James and Joan Martin, and has raised more than $800,000 since its inception in 1999. This year, founder Jim Martin received special recognition in celebration of his vision, leadership and dedication to growing the event over the past 26 years.

Rising golf star Alice Baich was celebrated as the youngest player to compete in all three tournaments of the Beebe Charitable Golf Series: the Jean & Joan Tournament, the Baywood Classic and the South Coastal Classic.

“This tournament embodies what community care looks like, reflecting the strength of the human spirit and the power of giving back,” said Kay Young, executive director of development for Beebe Medical Foundation.
