Cape fashion program a great pipeline for UD

November 7, 2025

My daughter Sara’s love for all things fashion started with her grandmother teaching her how to sew. This love blossomed in her fashion design classes at Cape Henlopen High School. She decided to pursue a fashion degree in college. Our vast search for colleges narrowed to the University of Delaware right in our home state. Who knew the program was rated top 10 in the United States?

I say all of this to encourage the Cape Henlopen School District to continue to support and offer fashion design classes for current and future students. Since the state of Delaware is cutting the program from its CTE offerings, I wanted to share our family’s personal experience with the fashion classes at Cape. Cape district could continue to be a pipeline for future students to continue their fashion education at the University of Delaware. In a world where arts programs are getting cut, it is so important to recognize that fashion provides an outlet for self-expression, empathy and confidence. These programs are so valuable for students. I hope the fashion program at Cape continues for generations to come.
