I am writing in support of the Great Marsh Park master plan in Lewes. I was out of town Oct. 27, and could not attend the meeting where this was discussed. Had I been there, I would have responded to the comments of my Canary Creek neighbor, reported in the Oct. 31 issue of the Cape Gazette, who spoke out against a birdwatching area that interfered with the privacy that she paid for by purchasing a wooded lot and, therefore, did not have to hang curtains.
Open spaces, parks, preserved marshes and woodlands are local treasures that we all must protect and that we all are entitled to enjoy. Consideration of homeowners’ properties adjacent to these areas is vital to the planning process, but providing public access to them is paramount.
As a Canary Creek and City of Lewes full-time resident, I welcome well-planned walking trails, birdwatching and resting areas in our Great Marsh Park bordering my development, even if this might require a few of my neighbors to hang some curtains.
