Burpee challenge nets $9,500 for Beebe cancer care
The Body Shop Fitness Center in Rehoboth Beach recently sponsored a fundraiser challenge in support of Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center.
Owner and trainer Adam Howard teamed up with personal trainer Bruce Clayton for the third annual Burpees for Beebe event. In previous years, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, Howard and Clayton each completed 100 burpees for 100 days. This year, they kicked it up a notch by completing 200 burpees a day for 100 days, for a grand total of 20,000 burpees individually.
They wanted to include other local businesses and local heroes like officers from the Rehoboth Beach Police Department and Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company in the mix. To their excitement, actor Jon Bernthal joined in the fun on day 45 and completed burpees with them. They not only successfully raised $9,500, but also motivated Rehoboth Beach locals and visitors to do their own fitness challenges.
Howard and Clayton met with Beebe Medical Foundation representatives Oct. 29 to present a check for $9,500 to benefit the Tunnell Cancer Center near Rehoboth Beach.
