At nearly every Cape Henlopen High School football game, two familiar faces can be spotted on the sidelines. Sophomores Chris Prince and Levi Stevenson have solidified their roles as photographers at Cape sporting events, capturing the energy, emotion and excitement of each game. For both photographers, their passion began from the inspiration of others and encouragement from their friends.
Prince’s once-casual hobby has grown into something so much bigger.
“My love for photography started when I saw others doing it at sporting events, and I thought it would be something I would really enjoy,” he said. “Photography is something I would like to pursue as a career, with taking it to college, then maybe a professional league.”
Prince’s favorite style of photography is black-and-white, which he says gives a simple and timeless quality to his work.
For Stevenson, his photography journey started last October during his freshman year.
“I was really inspired by photographers I would see online,” he said. “I decided I would try it out for fun, and now I love it.”
Since Stevenson began, he has seen major growth in his work.
“Over my first year of photography, I have seen major improvements in my work that I never expected I would get to, and have found many cool ways to make my work creative and different from others,” he said.
In the future, Stevenson’s dream job would be to take pictures for professional sports teams like the Eagles and 76ers.
Both photographers have become a critical part of the Cape Henlopen community, providing students, families and athletes with photos that capture moments they will remember forever.
When the lights are cast on Cape’s football field Friday nights, somewhere on the sidelines are Chris Prince and Levi Stevenson with lenses focused, ready to capture the heart of Cape athletics, one photo at a time.
