Lunch group supports Ocean Waves Quilt Guild

November 29, 2025

Lunch With a Purpose Coastal Delaware members gathered Nov. 5 at Signatures at Bayside in support of Ocean Waves Quilt Guild.

Heidi Kuchta, guild president, presented an overview of the types of projects its 250 members contribute to the community. Members work on machine-sewn and hand-sewn items that are donated to hospitals, veterans, hospice patients and foster children, among others. Members also work in small groups throughout the year to sew infant burial gowns, comfort quits, duffle bags, pillowcases, baby quilts and teddy bears. An exhibit of quilts was on display.

Kuchta introduced Dr. Rama Peri of the Rosa Health Center, a nonprofit clinic for underserved communities in Sussex County. Peri spoke about the center’s partnership with the quilt guild and all it does to provide comfort and supply necessities to her patients and babies.

A Quilt of Valor was presented to guild member Maj. Sandrah M. Pederson in recognition of her 30 years of military service in both the Navy and Air Force.

The event raised $15,758 in cash and in-kind donations. Nonperishable food valued at $3,300 was collected for the Conley’s United Methodist Church food pantry.
