American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28 holds Thanksgiving dinner

November 26, 2025

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28 held its annual community Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 23, at American Legion Post 28 near Millsboro.

Widowed members of American Legion Post 28 were welcome to enjoy the meal free of charge while other guests paid a nominal $10 fee.

Auxiliary Unit 28 member Roberta Halle Bass was presented with the Unit Member of the Year plaque at the event. She also received the 2025 State of Delaware Outstanding Member of the Year.

The auxiliary served the traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, coleslaw, rolls and butter, and numerous desserts, including carrot cake and pumpkin pie.

“Hosting our annual Thanksgiving dinner for widowed members of Post 28 is one of the most meaningful traditions the auxiliary shares,” said Auxiliary Vice President Beth McGinn. “Seeing our guests feel remembered is the greatest reward of all.”

A veteran’s gift tree provided hand-chosen Christmas gifts for 300 veterans who are in Millsboro assisted living, the VA Clinic in Georgetown or the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford. The presents were donated by American Legion Post 28 members.
