MLK celebration booklet ad submissions due Dec. 23

November 27, 2025

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization of Sussex County Inc. invites all to participate in the 38th Annual Commemorative Weekend Celebration from Saturday to Monday, Jan. 17 to 19, to honor the late civil rights leader.

The annual banquet will be held at 4:30 p.m., Jan. 17, at the Bryan A. Stevenson School of Excellence, 20346 Ennis St., Georgetown.

Moving Forward Amidst the Storm is the 2026 theme. It reflects human persistence, perseverance, strength and resilience. Regardless of how hard the struggle becomes, by the grace of God, all will continue to press on and move forward while striving to unite the country and the world in peace.

Delivering the keynote address will be Dr. Debbie Harrington, a Delaware State University board of trustees member.

Organizers encourage everyone to worship at a location of their choice Sunday, and to participate in the weekend’s various activities sponsored by local organizations, especially service projects.

The annual tradition of conducting a community worship service will continue at 10 a.m., Jan. 19, at Friendship Baptist Church, 500 W. Fourth St., Lewes. The messenger this year will be the Rev. Janet West of Friendship Baptist Church. The worship leader will be Kendra Gainey from Friendship United Methodist Church in Millsboro.

The community’s support is always needed and appreciated in perpetuating and nurturing King’s legacy, vision and dream. Donations may be sent to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization, P.O Box 781, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Contributions will help fund scholarships for deserving youth in Sussex County as well as the organization’s ongoing work.

A souvenir booklet will be available with only full- and half-page ads, which must be camera ready. A patron list is also available.

The deadline to purchase ads and patron listings is Tuesday, Dec. 23. For pricing details and to purchase ads and patron listings, and for Jan. 19 worship information, contact Janie Miller at 302-227-3118 or email jmm49@live.com.
