Lewes Lights, a free holiday light tour of decorated homes and businesses in and near Lewes, will run for its sixth year from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5 to Wednesday, Dec. 31.
This event was started in 2020 to brighten spirits and create holiday joy in Lewes during a year marked by isolation and cancellations, and it has become a beloved tradition. It is a grassroots, community event powered solely by participants with a shared love of Christmas.
Lewes Lights creates an annual tour map with the addresses of participants for light peepers to follow and enjoy at their own pace. Lewes residents and businesses are invited to join this community event by registering for the map and displaying a Lewes Lights sign. Registration is open at LewesLights.org.
The tour map covers the City of Lewes, as well as the gateway areas of Savannah Road and Kings Highway. The higher density of lighted homes, easy-to-navigate streets, 25 mph speed limit and streetlights make it easy and safe to navigate the tour route.
Homes outside this area can be included on the WOW Homes page of the Lewes Lights website, which features special homes with lots of lights and holiday decorations, listed by their address with a photo and description. Anyone in the 19958 ZIP code interested in adding their Christmas home to the WOW page should send a photo and description to leweslights@gmail.com.
The goal of Lewes Lights is to lift spirits, spread light and celebrate with the community. Anyone in Lewes can be part of this homegrown holiday tradition by registering, and spreading the word to friends and neighbors to sign up.
