Elaine Paula Dewey-Shupe, devoted to serving others

December 5, 2025

Elaine Paula Dewey-Shupe, 86, died peacefully at her home in Lewes Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025. She was born April 5, 1939.

Elaine was a retired social worker who devoted her life to serving others, exhibiting kindness and driven compassion wholeheartedly. She worked and volunteered at Delaware Hospice, where she was known as a dedicated professional and a passionate advocate for safety, security, and righteousness. Her vibrant personality and wisdom touched all who knew her, and she wished to be remembered most for always being kind. Elaine encouraged all to spread companionship and prayer, honoring community, connection, and the bonds that unite people from the high and low tides of Delaware to St. Croix.

Spirit-led, Elaine drew deep comfort from John 11:25-26 (KJV): "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." She carried this promise with her throughout her life, inspiring those around her with unwavering faith, hope, and a joyful trust in God’s plan.

Her faith in God was the foundation of her life, guiding her every action. Let’s honor the words of Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Elaine carried this testament with her, a guiding light for all who knew her.

Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her family, church community, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at Lewes Presbyterian Church, Lewes

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice or to a charity of choice, honoring Elaine’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
