Sussex Academy outmaneuvers Milford in aquatic battle

Seahawks sharpen talons against Bucs ahead of war with Vikings
January 29, 2026

With victories over Milford Jan. 23, the Sussex Academy swim teams concluded their away schedule with impressive records.

The girls went undefeated, 6-0, and the boys were 4-1, although two of the tri-meets were listed as away but were held at the Sussex Academy Aquatics Center. The technicality doesn’t diminish the now 59-match regular-season win streak the girls have accumulated, and what could be another regular-season Henlopen Conference championship.

While the boys’ early-season loss to Caesar Rodney clouds their path to a Henlopen title, the girls know exactly what they need to do: beat Cape. Both Cape teams are undefeated, and while numbers have traditionally favored the Vikings, especially with the boys, Sussex Academy has the depth to match Cape’s top-end talent. The fellas will need Cape to defeat Caesar Rodney Jan. 29, but lose to the Seahawks Friday, Jan. 30, to force a three-way tie.

On the girls’ side, though, the Seahawks just need to defeat the Vikings to claim the regular-season throne and feel optimistic about their chances at the conference meet. Cape’s girls have not beaten Sussex Academy in seven years.

Following the Cape meet at home Jan. 30, Sussex Academy will conclude its regular season against Polytech at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2.
