AAUW to meet Feb. 19
The AAUW Coastal-Georgetown Branch will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, at The Lodge at Historic Lewes, with Rep. Alonna Berry, D-Milton, as the guest speaker.
Berry’s roots run deep in Sussex County, where her family has lived and served for generations. She comes from a proud line of Delaware educators – trailblazers who taught in one-room schoolhouses and played roles in integrating local schools, laying the groundwork for a more inclusive and equitable future.
That legacy of service and progress has fueled Berry’s entire career. She served in the Office of Gov. John Carney as director of Community and Family Services and later as senior policy advisor for Health, Equity and Education, both roles in which she helped shape statewide policies to support schools and improve health outcomes. Berry also broke new ground as Delaware’s first statewide trauma-informed care coordinator, building partnerships across agencies to ensure state systems respond with compassion to children and families navigating tough times.
As executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice, Berry promotes reforms to make the justice system more fair and neighborhoods more safe through restorative, community-based solutions.
Berry is currently a doctoral candidate at Wilmington University.
