Women’s Club of Milton continues service to community
Women's Club of Milton members have been busy honoring their motto, making a difference, by helping those in the community.
As part of their Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January, members collected clothing and supplies for the Shepherd's Office in Georgetown. Diane Bitterle and Tammy Jo Warner led the drive, gathering 30 bags of items donated by members. Bitterle and member Janet Montague then delivered the donations to the organization.
The club supported the Milton Public Library during its 150th anniversary celebration by presenting a donation check for $3,000. Part of the funds was used to purchase to-go learning kits for science, technology, engineering, arts and math projects, designed to engage kids of all ages in the learning process.
The club also supported the Town of Milton by purchasing a new welcome sign to be placed on Harbeson Road. Member Nancy Trask had suggested replacing the existing sign due to its age and condition. The new sign will boast Milton's new town logo, "Livable, Walkable, Unforgettable," and will be installed when weather permits.
Most recently, the club created 520 Valentine's Day cards that were distributed to local organizations. Handmade cards were delivered to Kent-Sussex Industries Inc. and Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, Meals on Wheels in Milton, the Shepherd's Office in Georgetown and What Is Your Voice in Lewes. Member Mary Kay Williams led the initiative, preparing kits full of cards, envelopes and stickers. Club members added some of their own crafting supplies to the kits, inspiring them to fashion the cheerful cards.
The Women’s Club of Milton is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, one of the world’s oldest and largest women’s service organizations dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service.
