Milton Theatre begins pouring concrete on new educational wing
Milton Theatre began pouring concrete on its new 2,850-square-foot educational wing Feb. 19.
Marketing Director J.P. Lacap said foundation work on the addition has been completed and the theater is hoping to have the facility operational by August.
The $3 million expansion will include new rehearsal spaces, green rooms and offices, as well as new bathrooms. The addition is Phase 2 of a large renovation project to the more than 100-year-old theater, with Phase 1 being the balcony restoration finished in 2023. The desire to move forward with the project came from the popularity of the theater’s youth programs, including the Musical Theatre Ensemble, which are held in the spring and fall, and the summer theater camps, which sell out quickly and often have waiting lists.
Quayside property
Around the same time it began pouring concrete for the new education wing, the theater also began a 30-day fundraising campaign to purchase the adjacent Quayside Stage property.
According to theater officials, the theater has been offered the chance to purchase the property for $150,000 within the next 30 days. For nearly a decade, the theater has used the space to hold outdoor concerts in the summer, and this year used it to host the Santa House at Christmas time.
Jacey Brittingham, development director for the theater, said, “A community is only as strong as the spaces it shares. Quayside is more than just a lot; it’s where our historic district comes alive. It’s where neighbors become friends and where the arts find a home under the open sky.”
