Cape Henlopen Elks support area homeless with sock drive

March 21, 2026

The Community Outreach Committee of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 of Lewes was established with the intent to help those less fortunate in the local community.

Recently, the lodge saw great success from its Sock It to 'Em sock drive, with members donating 517 pairs of non-binding socks for the homeless this winter. These warm, comfortable socks are one of the most-requested items from the Shepherd’s Office in Georgetown, which provides year-round support for homeless and disadvantaged residents in area communities.

Elks members delivered the donated socks to the Shepherd's Office Jan. 30. Shown are (l-r) Elks Community Outreach Chair Barb Gilsenan, Pat and Bob Barnes, and Exalted Ruler Marty Schreck.
