Retired Navy captain to speak at AAUW meeting March 19
Marjorie Rawhouser, a retired U.S. Navy captain, engineer and community college administrator, will address attendees during the AAUW Coastal Georgetown Chapter meeting set for 11 a.m., Thursday, March 19, in the Lodge at Historic Lewes.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Rawhouser's active and reserve assignments included shipboard duty on the USS Acadia (AD-42), staff duty at the Naval Academy, and liaison with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Boston and New York.
Mobilized for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Rawhouser served as liaison officer to the United Nations in Baghdad from March 2006 to March 2007. She worked with military, UN and U.S. State Department personnel to resolve issues relating to refugees and displaced persons. She also facilitated communications between parties involved in Iraq's political process. Rawhouser retired from the Navy Reserve in 2010.
Rawhouser earned a master of science degree and a PhD in bioengineering from The Pennsylvania State University, and has worked in cardiovascular medical device research and development for 15 years. More recently, she was an engineering faculty member and assistant dean at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md. She has pursued a lifelong passion for music in church choirs, community bands and as a member of Sweet Adelines International. She is actively involved in USNA Women, a nonprofit organization that supports Naval Academy women by creating community, preserving the legacy of women, providing mentorship and empowering women leaders. Rawhouser is also a member of AAUW-CG.
