Schell Brothers pledges to support land conservation in Sussex

The Sussex County Land Trust recently announced that Schell Brothers has made a significant contribution to support land conservation efforts in Sussex County through a $1,000-per-lot donation associated with the Channel Point community.

With 70 home sites planned, the contribution represents a meaningful investment in the preservation of Sussex County’s natural, agricultural and cultural landscapes.

The donation stems from an agreement between Schell Brothers and Carl M. Freeman Companies, and Schell Brothers chose to carry that commitment forward in support of the land trust’s conservation work.

“This type of partnership demonstrates how thoughtful development and land conservation can work hand in hand,” said Sara Bluhm, Sussex County Land Trust executive director. “We are grateful to Schell Brothers for recognizing the importance of protecting the land and resources that make Sussex County such a special place to live.”

The contribution comes at a time when SCLT is launching its newly adopted mission, vision and values, which guide the organization’s work across the county.

Its new mission is, “Safeguarding the land and resources that make Sussex County special,” supported by a vision of “a protected and connected network of natural and cultural places for all to enjoy.”

“These partnerships reflect the values that guide our work every day,” Bluhm said. “Stewardship of the land, sustainability in how we grow and collaboration with partners across Sussex County are essential to ensuring that the places people love today remain protected for generations to come.”

Funds from the contribution will support SCLT’s ongoing efforts to protect working farms, forests, waterways, and open space while expanding opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with the outdoors.

As Sussex County continues to grow, collaborative partnerships between conservation organizations, landowners and responsible developers are increasingly important to preserving the region’s natural character and quality of life.
