Screening protocol enforced at DMV

March 10, 2026
The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles is implementing new security screening protocols at all DMV locations this week.

Customers will now be required to pass through weapons detector systems that are staffed by private security when entering a DMV facility. Additionally, changes to entering and exiting the facilities are also being made. All DMVs will continue to have law enforcement present at each location also.

"The Delaware DMV processes nearly one million transactions annually, and we appreciate the public's patience as we enhance security at our facilities statewide," said Secretary of Transportation Shanté Hastings in a press release.

As a reminder, the Wilmington DMV is now open for customers by appointment only, and appointments can be made online at appointments.dmv.de.gov. Those without internet access may call 302-744-2500 to schedule an appointment by phone. The The Delaware City, Dover, and Georgetown DMV locations will continue to offer walk-in service to customers.
