Sussex County Democrats to host spring dinner May 16

April 17, 2026

The Sussex County Democratic Committee will host its annual spring dinner from 5 to 9 p.m.,  Saturday, May 16, at the CHEER Center, 20520 Sand Hill Road, Georgetown.

The event will raise money to support Delaware’s Democratic candidates and efforts to get out the vote in the 2026 election.

Guests will enjoy an evening of community, conversation and good food as they connect with candidates and elected officials from across the state.

Delivering the keynote address will be Joseph Lawson, executive director of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice. He will discuss the fight against racism in Sussex County, what the alliance is doing about it, and what everyone can do to motivate people to turn out to vote, protest and fight for their rights.

SCDC Chair Loretta Benson said, “In these challenging times for our nation, there’s nothing more powerful than coming together for an evening of unity, inspiration and resolve. Our spring dinner is a chance for guests to reconnect with fellow Democrats, recharge their spirit and rally for the work ahead.”

More than 200 people are expected to attend the fundraising event, which is designed to energize Democratic volunteers and welcome new donors. Proceeds will support Democratic candidates during the upcoming campaign.

"This is an opportunity for folks from all over Sussex County to meet at a casual event and celebrate our shared values," said Lissa Dulany, event chair. “We invite all Democrats to join us and prepare for the critical battles ahead.”
