Thomas Lee Stubbins, proud veteran
Thomas Lee Stubbins, 85, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Seasons Hospice Inpatient Unit at Christiana Hospital in Newark. He was born April 10, 1927, son of the late William and Matilda (Bransby) Stubbins.
Mr. Stubbins proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was an active participant with his sons in the Boy Scouts and could always be found on the Harundale Little League ball field during their childhood. He was also an enthusiastic Baltimore Orioles fan.
Mr. Stubbins looked forward to his daily visits at the Lewes McDonalds with his coffee/breakfast club group and he enjoyed serving at the soup and salad fellowship each Tuesday at Lewes Presbyterian Church. Mr. Stubbins had many varied interests which included serving as the acting treasurer for the Artistic Seniors at the Harbor Lights CHEER Center in Lewes, a member of the Pythagoras Lodge 123 AF&AM in Baltimore, Md., American Legion Post 40 in Glen Burnie, Md., Rehoboth Beach VFW Post 7447 and American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard. He loved crabbing, golfing and camping with his family. He was a loving father and particularly loved time spent with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, positive attitude and love of family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stubbins was preceded in death by his wife Claudia (Byrd) Stubbins (2005); three brothers: George, Edward and William Stubbins; three sisters: Theresa Gruss, Mary Berman and Margaret Freburger.
Mr. Stubbins is survived by three sons: Mark Stubbins and wife Cynthia of Katy, Texas, Kirk Stubbins and wife Lora of Glen Burnie, and Craig Stubbins of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Donna Bartell and husband Van of Oakwood, Ga.; eight grandchildren: Heather Bowman and husband Robert, Amanda Crane and husband John, Bruce Moog and wife Kristen, Amy Beall and husband Matthew, Jessica Lease, TJ Stubbins, Kristin Stubbins and Isabella Stubbins; seven great-grandchildren: Emma Bowman, Thomas Bowman, Carlie Crane, Stephanie Lewis, Dale Moog, Bryanna Beall and Gabriel Lease.
A celebration of life for Mr. Stubbins will be held at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. There will be a Masonic Sservice just prior to the celebration of life at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
