Business, finance, marketing students excel at state BPA competition

The Sussex Tech Business, Finance and Marketing-Business Professionals of America students recently competed at the 2013 BPA State Leadership Conference in Dover. Sixty percent (22 of the 37 competing) of the BFM-BPA state team members earned spots on the BPA national team. Sussex Tech is also proud of the sophomore BPA class members who won many awards, an unprecedented feat at the school. The students were required in October to begin preparing and studying for the state competition.  The BPA National Leadership Conference will be held May 7-12 in Orlando, Fla.

Seniors qualifying for the nationals include Reggie Summers, Lincoln - first place, Advanced Accounting and third place, Banking and Finance; Devin Deloach, Millsboro - first, Presentation Management-Individual; Christina Piper, Milton - third, Economic Research-Individual; Maddy Ellenberger, Millsboro - first, Small Business Management Team.

Qualifying juniors are Erin Marine, Seaford - fourth, Advanced Accounting; Nhu Do, Seaford - second, Fundamental Word Processing Skills and second, Presentation Management Team; Danny Halloran, Milton - second, Presentation Management Team and State Officer Candidate; Willis Dickerson, Bridgeville - fourth, Advanced Word Processing Skills;  Catherine Getz, Bridgeville - third, Interview Skills; Tyler Butler, Laurel - first, Small Business Management Team; Bri Wentworth, Georgetown - first, Small Business Management Team.

Sophomore team members include Olivia Outten, Georgetown - second, Administrative Support Team and third, Database Applications; Ty Showell, Millsboro - second, Administrative Support Team; Natalie Fryling, Seaford - second, Administrative Support Team; Hannah Collins, Millsboro - second, Administrative Support Team; Edwin Velasquez, Georgetown - second, Website Design Team and fifth, Fundamental Desktop Publishing; Brandon Lewis, Millsboro - second, Website Design Team; Kyle Hickman, Millsboro - first, Graphic Design Promotion; Connor Filicko, Milton - third, Human Resource Management; Emily Nichols, Milton - first, Payroll Accounting and first, Presentation Management Team; Hannah Mayhorn, Lewes - first, Presentation Management Team; and Chelsi Williams, Milton - first, Presentation Management Team and third, Payroll Accounting.
